 Working on Church Buildings

Work on churches is not subject to normal planning regulations such as listed building consent. It is controlled by the the Church authorities through what is know as 'the faculty process'.  You can read more about this on the 'How we manage our buildings' section of the Church of England Website.

Far from making it easier to work on a church, the faculty process is famously thorough, aimed at ensuring that alterations and repairs to a church building is of the highest quality and are done without compromising the historical fabric or character of the building and its surroundings.

We are being supported through our planning by the Bath and Wells Diocesan Advisory Committee and have consulted with a wide range of statutory bodies including National Amenity Societies and the local authority.
